peek-a-boo!

Baby Sage has a new-found love for peek-a-boo. He especially loves to play with Grandpa! He's such a happy little guy, he surprises me with how smart and full of life he is every day. Now excuse me, I have to go clean up my heart that just melted all over the floor. xo

thanksgiving photobooth

Here are our Thanksgiving photobooth pictures! These were soooo easy to make and so fun. I just used colored cardstock and sharpies to make the shapes, then hot glued them to thin wooden rods from Michael's. I can't wait to make more for Christmas!

You can read more about our Thanksgiving here.

thankful

This Thanksgiving was Sage's first, and we were so lucky to have everyone here for the weekend! Haydn and Sean came in from Utah and Colin drove in from Monterrey. There was no shortage of food and no shortage of laughs! Sage was so excited to play with aunt Haydn and Uncle Sean. The top two pictures are of them laughing and playing together! The turkey was delicious, and Sage even got to eat some thanks to his mesh feeder (that we love!) with his pureed squash and sweet potato mashed potatoes. You can find the post on how I make them here. After dinner we rested and made a Black Friday plan while watching some football and taking photobooth pictures with props I had made the night before (post to come!). We bundled up Sage and headed out for the Thanksgiving night deals. What a wonderful day with family! So much to be thankful for. Now I'm officially ready to kick-off the Christmas season and fill up on turkey sandwiches!xo

5 blogs I love right now

Theme: crafty moms

http://www.abeautifulmess.com/
This is the first blog that I started following that really got me into blogs and inspired me to start my own. The blog is headed by Elsie Larson and her sister Emma. They own a vintage clothing store and post great recipes, outfits, crafts, and decorating tips. She's not a mom but she has nieces and nephews that she crafts for, so I had to include her:)

http://sometimessweet.blogspot.com/
This blog is by a high school English teacher turned stay-at-home-mom. She posts great family pictures and things that just motivate and inspire.

http://taza-and-husband.blogspot.com/
This is another mom that I'm following. She posts pictures of her two little ones and they are just wonderful, plus she has such cute littles with cute names (Eleanor and Samson). Their family just got home from a trip to Italy (where her husband served a mission) to avoid hurricane Sandy, and their pictures from traveling abroad with two small kids are so fun!

http://www.thedaybookblog.com/
This is another mom blog that I love. Her pictures of her son Everett inspire me to capture the smallest moments with Sage. She has some really great outfit blogs too!

http://thealisonshow.com/
This blog has some really great decorating and craft ideas for the home and for small kids. Recently she's posted hand-stamped swaddle blankets and stenciled turkey leggings that are just to die for.

These are five of my favorite blogs that I'm following right now. Check them out, and if you're following someone you just love, let me know!xo

Watching: New Girl. I love this show and I love Zooey Deschanel. I have been a fan of this show since the first episode. I have the biggest girl crush on Zooey Deschanel...I have cut blunt bangs more than once after watching her movies and thinking to myself "dang, she is just the cutest thing" (haha!). This show never fails to crack me up. The last episode has a part where Jess (Zooey's character.. yes, me and Zooey are so close we are on a first name basis..) starts crying in an interview after seeing a picture of a tiny puppy in a teacup. I had to rewind it and watch it about 3 more times then I had to show it to my sister and her friend so I could laugh about it again. Thank goodness for DVR!

Listening to: I've been listening to a lot of country lately. The new Taylor Swift CD came out and I'm channeling my inner 13-year-old girl. I'm also sort of having a major guilty-pleasure moment with the new Kesha song, it's my new "Call me Maybe".

Planning: Lessons! After being done with college for almost three years I am so excited to finally be planning lessons. I my first teaching day today and it's definitely going to be a challenge, but I'm ready to get the kids back on the right track and hopefully make them more confident in a subject that they struggle in. I have been finding some really fun ideas across different teacher blogs. This morning was my first staff meeting so I was introduced to the staff. Everyone was really excited and made a point to stop me in the hall and offer any help if I needed it. Coming in and taking over a classroom is a huge undertaking, and it makes me feel great that I have staff support if I ever need some back-up. I can't wait to really get started and delve into concepts Monday!

Thinking about
: My mind is in a million different places right now. I'm thinking about growing up, I'm thinking about moving and having a special place for me and Sage. And I'm thinking about time management. Being a single mom who works two jobs is too much. I narrowed it down to just my teaching job; my part time job had to go, for more than one reason, but I believe that they timing on things is always right and it was time for me to walk away from my retail job. I'm excited to have evenings after school to spend with Sage. He is getting to be so much bigger and more aware, I don't want to miss even one milestone.

Looking forward to
: I've been shopping around for a new apartment. I found a townhouse I am in love with, I just need to wait for my current lease to be finished. I've been gathering little things here and there to put in my new space when the time comes. Expect new blog segments after the big move about my adventure moving with an infant and decorating our new space. I have always had an interest in decorating and design, so I see this apartment as a blank canvas where I can really set down roots and make it my own.

Reading: blogs, blogs and more blogs. I'm really finding some awesome blogs out there that are giving me some great inspiration for my own writing and photography. I'm really loving a couple in particular, and I will be posting links to my favorites tomorrow. I am inspired by some of the amazing moms out there. I can only hope that my blog makes people feel a connection to me the same way I feel connected to other people through their blogs. Okay, I am starting to sound sappy, but it's really amazing that people who would have never connected before are able to connect through the internet.

Making me happy
: Knowing that Haydn, Sean AND Colin will be here next week for THANKSGIVING! I feel like I'm going to burst I'm so excited! All parties involved should expect to be photographed constantly. Earplugs should also be provided for the men enduring the chicken coop that is the Jensen house. Jensen girls are LOUD. And that's without putting them in the same room. When we get together it's unbearable, especially if we haven't all been together for awhile. We know. We get excited. And we have loud voices. But it only happens a couple times a year.
Plus, I have a cute Thanksgiving outfit for Sage and a photobooth idea for family pictures. Thanksgiving is really one of the best holidays, it's so great to have a whole day dedicated to family and being thankful and just eating and loving.

This sure is a whole mess of thoughts. Enjoy your Thanksgiving and hug your family. It really is a special time of year.xo

little and big: boat shoes

Today me and Sage both wore boat shoes. Its a trend I love for guys, girls... and littles! Anyone can pull them off and they have a way of making you feel an instant preppy, vacation-in-nantucket vibe. Just don't pair with a pastel sweater tied around your shoulders. This isn't a 1980s Tommy Hilfiger ad.xo

soaking up the autumn air

I've been trying to do everything fall, but after seeing this picture I had to laugh because I think my attempt at creating fall traditions and memories probably looks more like this. You can ask Colin, who has definitely been a good sport through all of my fall-themed adventures (usually fueled by my unhealthy pinterest obsession).xo

seems like a good day for a quote

Today seems like a good day to remember how beautiful you are. Have a wonderful week, you have already made it halfway through to the weekend! If that's not something to celebrate then I don't know what is!xo

baby see, baby do

oh, snap

places i love: comma coffee

I posted earlier about our snowy date day that we had over the weekend, but haven't had a chance to share all of my pictures! We went to Comma Coffee in Carson to get some warm drinks on a chilly day. This is one of my favorite places to sit and chat. The coffee shop is broken up into several little intimate sitting areas with whimsical touches such as old trunks for coffee tables and mismatched furniture. Sage couldn't believe how much there was to see! I couldn't get him to smile at the camera because he was busy taking in all of the surroundings. Until he finally noticed me and posed for the camera. I've created a monster! He's such a little ham! We sat and enjoyed each other's company and warmed up before we braved the snow again. I think now that I'm going to be teaching full time after this week, Comma Coffee will be the perfect place to sit and plan my lessons. I'll definitely be a frequent here, and with so many things on the walls Sage will have plenty to look at to keep himself behaved while I plan. Love!

When we got home I saw that the neighbor kids had made little snowmen in their yard and I had to take a picture. So cute!xo

Colin bought Sage this mustache pacifier from Francesca's Collections (LOVE everything in there). We are in love with our tiny little British man! Just something to make you smile:) Cheers!

outfit inspiration: snowy shopping day

Today we had a snowy shopping day. We decided to go to some of our favorite places around town...I'll blog about our date day later:) I took lot's of pictures! But I thought I would do a quick outfit post.

I wanted to wear boots out because there was a good inch of snow that I knew would be turning to slush soon, and the worst thing is walking around with cold feet and wet, drippy pant cuffs.

I decided to wear thick, black leggings, teal boot socks, and black riding boots with a teal and gray striped sweater dress and a gray wool toggle jacket. The teal socks and stripes of teal made for fun pops of color under the coat without being too overwhelming. The thick socks kept my feet warm and looked cute...double win! I got this coat for Christmas last year and love it because it is so easy to dress up or dress down. I stayed nice and warm and my feet stayed nice and dry today!

More pictures to come from our snowy date day! Stay warm and dry!xo

making my own juice

Okay, so if you're friends with me on facebook you know I was asking for people's advice/thoughts on juicers and making my own juice. I watched the Documentary Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead and, though I probably won't be doing a full juice fast any time soon, I wanted to add some natural juices to my diet. Thankfully I have friends who are nice enough to let me borrow their juicer so I can test it out. I didn't want to make a big investment without getting to try it first! But I'm in love. It's just me and my juicer, taking on the world (haha!). My favorite juice that I've tried so far is carrot apple juice. I have been drinking this juice in the morning to kick start my metabolism. I'm amazed at the nutrients that I can get from one juice. This one includes 6 large carrots and a granny smith apple. There is no way I would be able to eat that before work every morning and there are no sugars or additives.

I'm a believer!
Does anyone have any juice combos that they love. I would love to hear!xo

homemade baby food adventure #2: sweet potato mashed potatoes

This morning I decided to make some more baby food. Days off are always good days for these types of projects. I picked up a few sweet potatoes from the store earlier in the week when I saw that they were on sale. I read that sweet potatoes are good first foods for new solid food eaters.

I washed the sweet potatoes really well while the oven preheated to 375 degrees. When the oven was heated up, I poked holes into the potatoes with a fork and let them cook for an hour (flipping half way through). When they were done cooking I scooped out the insides with a spoon and whipped the insides using a hand mixer so they would be nice and fluffy!
He loved them so much he grabbed the spoon out of my hand and tried to feed himself (bottom picture)! Now with a full tummy he is down for a nap so mama has some time to blog! Have you tried any baby food combos that your little ones loved? I would love to hear!xo
