a portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2014

So I just plain skipped two weeks. As far as my 52 project pictures are concerned, there just wasn't even a week 29 and week 30 this year.

Now, I thought about doing a "52 project - iPhone edition" and using iPhone pictures that I have probably already posted on Instagram and probably aren't very good quality anyway. Then I thought about doing "52 project - from the cutting room floor" and posting pictures that I love that didn't make the cut in other weeks through the year. But that doesn't really work with the whole "picture once a week throughout the year" idea of the 52 project.

So, alas, I decided to just cut my losses and start fresh this week. So here we are. Week 31. Can ya even believe it?

Summer has been good to us. We are coming to the end of our summer break. We celebrated randomly by having a breakfast picnic. Now, breakfast is a meal that just doesn't get its fair share of picnics, if you ask me. Lunch picnics are a given. Dinner picnics are just kind of called BBQs. But a late morning trip to the donut shop and weather that wasn't too hot yet called for an impromptu picnic. So picnic we did.

27 for 27

I've made it to the latter part of my twenties. I'm finally at an age where people are starting to take me seriously. I finally have some life experience.

And, because my appearance tricks people into thinking that I've just entered my twenties, the age on my birth certificate has always seemed to hold a pretty significant amount of weight.

"But you'll love that you look so young when you're in your 40s!"
Says the lady at the grocery store after she cards me to buy spray paint.

I know that twenty-seven is going to be a good one. A fantastic year. I can just feel it in my bones.

Kicking off this 27th year on earth with a list of 27 things that I want to accomplish before the year is up. Let's do this!

checking in

For those of you concerned that I am quiet and possibly in a mental institution or going through another one of those moments I sometimes have... never fear. I am alive and well and just soaking up every bit of this summer.

I am tired beyond belief because I think that's what two-year-old boys do to a person.

So don't fear, I'm just doing things a little bit quieter this season. Will the writing bug bite again soon? I sure hope so. I'm starting to miss those late nights of writing more than just a bit.

As for now, here's a quick check-in moment brought to you in part by summer rain and a fleeting desire to log into my blog account.

Making: plans.
Cooking: salads. Which isn't cooking, I get it. you don't cook a salad. Curating? maybe. Yeah, that sounds better. I have been curating salads ;)
Drinking: lemon and strawberry infused water.

Wanting: stability.
Looking: out the windows.

Wishing: life could be a little more obvious.
Enjoying: nature.
Waiting: for the end of summer to hit me.
Liking: slow mornings.
Wondering: all sorts of wonderings.
Loving: mountain air and summer rain.
Hoping: the rest of the summer doesn't go by too fast.
Marveling: in nature's beauty (every time).
Needing: nothing.
Smelling: warm rain.

Noticing: people change.

a portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2014

Lake Tahoe during the day is gorgeous.
But at night, at night its beauty is almost unspeakable.

26/52 and 27/52

You must live in the present, launch yourself on every wave, find your eternity in each moment. Fools stand on their island of opportunities and look toward another land. There is no other land; there is no other life but this.
― Henry David Thoreau

A two-for-one special for you this week.

For Pete's sake. Maybe I'll be back in the groove of posting consistently sometime soon. But maybe I won't. It's been nice to just leave my phone places and not worry about when I'll be on the internet next. It's been nice to delete the Facebook app off of my phone. It's been nice to just step back and unplug a little bit.

So pardon the silence.
But Sage and I are making some memories that we might just keep to ourselves.

A tire swing on the 4th of July and a little boy who is too brave for his own good.

We're getting pretty good at being lake bums. Practice makes perfect, so they say.
If you need us between now and the first day of school, odds are you'll find us at Tahoe.
