a portrait of my child, once a week, every week in 2014

This was one of those pictures that you take and immediately know that it's going to be IT.

Lately Sage has been making a baby velociraptor screeeeeeeech when he gets excited. I had class all day on Saturday and he was headed to go spend the day with his grandpa. When I told him we were headed there the baby velociraptor screech soon followed suit.

Later that day, when I pulled the picture up on the computer, a string of profanities were said under my breath.
It's ####-ing out of focus. Are you ####-ing kidding me?!

I could have thrown my computer off the kitchen table right then and there. I didn't (just to clarify).

After days of editing and trying to salvage my dream picture... you know.. the one with the perfect light and the perfect color and the perfect expression, I threw my hands up. You just can't focus an out-of-focus shot. One more #### was muttered.

I realized soon after (well, after one more shot at trying to edit the picture) that I would post it anyway as my photo of the week this week.

Life isn't always a perfectly in focus shot.
Life with a wild little boy feels pretty blurry sometimes.
And really, we are our own worst critics when it comes to our art.

So my photo of the week this week is real. It's not a facade of what our life is like, it's an accurate picture of what our life is like. Bright and a little blurry and full of excited baby velociraptor screeches.

In fact, with all of its flaws, it might be my favorite photo yet.
