homemade baby food adventure #4: applesauce

This morning I decided to try out another different baby food. I had apples on hand that needed to be used, so I washed, peeled, and cubed three apples. I used Pink Lady apples because those are what I had on hand. I then steamed the apples in the double boiler until they were soft and could be mashed with a fork. Once the apples were soft, I put them into the Baby Bullet food processor with 1/4 cup of water to help the apples blend. The apple sauce is AMAZING. Definitely not just for babies. Haydn and I were eating it out of the processor before I even had a chance to put it into containers for Sage. I added some cinnamon and ate some for a snack while Sage was down for a nap. I am really looking forward to trying different kinds of of apples.

Sage loved the apple sauce. When he got up from his nap he was ready to eat, so in his chair he went--airplane jammies and all. Someone thinks he's old enough and big enough to hold his own spoon, so he kept grabbing the spoon out of my hand and flinging applesauce across the kitchen floor. I ended up giving him a dummy spoon for him to hold himself, then I would sneak bites of food into his mouth between the "bites" with his own spoon. Whatever works! He ate and ate, then showed off his full belly.

We definitely have a winner with this applesauce!
